Former music DJ takes on the role of wedding planner
Posted Wednesday, February 08, 2006 3:01:28 PM by Rose Martins

Former wedding DJ, Mark Shaffer has shifted roles. He once played DJ at the wedding reception but now he's the wedding planner. Shaffer has bought into a franchise called the Perfect Wedding Guide. According to Shaffer, "The bride can plan her entire wedding from one booklet." During his wedding DJ days, he too, advertised in the Perfect Wedding Guide Booklet. Perfect wedding music

Whether the bride to be is looking for music for the ceremony or reception, if she wants processional music, a piano playing in the background, traditional Christian wedding music, Irish wedding music, Jewish wedding music or the traditional wedding march - the booklet is the place for the bride to find what she is looking for.

Most brides would prefer to hear a sample of the music that will be potentially played at their wedding ceremony and perhaps reception. The advertisers listed in the Perfect Wedding Guide Booklet, will be happy to send a short music clip for the bride (and her fiancé) to listen to.

Shaffer realised the need to take things a step further, and opened up the Bridal Showcase in Las Vegas. The Bridal Showcase is a physical extension of the Perfect Wedding Guide Booklet.

MUSIC: Ex-Beatle stays on beat
Posted Wednesday, August 16, 2006 11:10:26 PM by Blog57 Team
As the live beat of Beatles classics begins bouncing off the walls of the Elks Lodge, a man with a gray mustache stands before his drum set and speaks up in a Liverpool lilt. "Let's take you back," he tells the crowd, "to the days when I used to play with a bunch of guys by the names of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison ..." Ringo Starr's playing the Elks club? No. Meet Pete Best, the drummer booted from the band just before Beatlemania exploded. John, Paul, George and new guy Ringo went on to become voices of a generation, musical and cultural history. Best became a civil servant. If there was bitterness - and Best says there was not - he doesn't show it. In fact, the 64-year-old drummer immerses himself in his Beatles past....

CD Review: Underdog Wishing Chair
Posted Thursday, July 13, 2006 9:25:47 AM by Blog57 Team
Quick, name me a women folk duo. What did you come up with, The Indigo Girls; no one else? Well let me add another name to that very short list - Wishing Chair. What you've never heard of them? Well guess what, until I'd heard their latest CD Underdog neither had I. And if this disc is anything to go by, they've been doing just fine without us and we've been missing out on something great.Who and what are Wishing Chair? Well in the simplest terms they are a folk-roots partnership made up of Miriam Davidson and Kiya Heartwood based out of Kentucky but seemingly touring all the time. Since 1995 they have produced six CD's including Underdog which was released in 2005.It's easy to fall into the trap of seeing the names of two women in a folk band and steeling yourself for oh so serious songs, the type young intellectual university women will sit around listening to deep into the night and discuss seriously....

Days after a leading Somali cleric declared the death penalty for Muslims who failed to pray five times a day, militiamen loyal to the Islamic court cracked down on band music by raiding a wedding party in Mogadishu, confiscating instruments and beating a woman. Twenty heavily armed men fired shots in the air and took musical instruments from the band performing in a home in Somalia's capital city yesterday. According to the Brisbane Courier-Mail, the band entertaining guests at the wedding party was told by the gunmen it was performing "satanic" music contrary to the Quran. ....
