Brightcove, others aim for TV on Web

Tokyo, Japan, Oct 12, 2006 - (JCN Newswire) - NTT DoCoMo, Inc. and its eight regional subsidiaries today announced 14 new 3G FOMA(TM) handsets-the 903i series, SIMPURE(TM) series and N902iL.All 11 new 903i handsets provide a wide range of entertainment functions. They are equipped for DoCoMo's Chaku-Uta Full(R) full-track music-downloading service. Five models can play tracks transferred from PCs that were used to download music from sites such as Napster(TM) Japan, which offers unlimited access to approximately 1.5 million downloadable tracks for a flat rate. HSDPA-capable models work with the Music Channel(TM) service, which enables up to two music programs to be downloaded automatically during the night, and the expanded i-motion(TM) video clip for downloading up to 10MB files. All models are compatible with Mega i-appli rich applications, and some are also equipped for 'One-segment' digital terrestrial broadcasting.The new 903i series offer a number of improved conveniences for daily life....

Warner Music videos to be free on YouTube

Music videos from artists including Madonna are to be made available free on the popular video website YouTube, as part of a deal with Warner Music. The agreement will see thousands of videos and interviews placed online on YouTube. It is not the first deal of its kind, as television broadcasters have been working with the site for some time. Capitol Records is also among the music companies to have embraced the site, but YouTube co-founder and chief executive Chad Hurley said the Warner deal was one of the most important he had ever made. "This is a real landmark for our company," he said. ....

RIM, MMP set flat fee for digital music use

It just got even easier for local content developers and telecommunications companies to utilise music in their services. The Recording Industry of Malaysia (RIM) and Malaysian Music Publishers Bhd (MMP) have agreed to a standard copyright fee of 8% of any royalties gained from the digital use of a song or a piece of music. Also, a content developer or telco now only needs to approach RIM for permission to use the music instead of going to the particular label, which can be time-consuming if there are several songs involved. Sandy Monteiro, RIM chairman, said the agreement will help stimulate further growth in the digital music business in the country. He said it creates a conducive environment for the content providers and telcos, especially in the delivery of ringtones, true tones, and ring-back tones. "We have simplified the process for them," Monteiro said at a press conference here last week to announce the agreement. The agreement covers current and future digital music formats....
