Local Singer Is A Country Music Sensation

She's been singing since before she could walk, now, she's 14 years old and has already signed a recording contract. Her name is Shelby Downing and she's been singing country music all over East Texas for years. Shelby Downing has been singing ever since she can remember. "I always knew I wanted to be a singer because I love performing in front of people and entertaining people," says Shelby. At age five, her first public performance was at a family reunion. Since then, she's been traveling all over East Texas, singing her heart out. "I love it. I just, entertaining from my hometown is what I want to do. It's just saying 'hey, I'm a Texas girl, I can entertain you.'" And at the young age of 14, she already has a record deal, her own CD, and a BMI singer-songwriter contract. She writes her own music....

CMA Announces Newest Members of Country Music Hall of Fame

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Aug. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- The Country Music Association has announced that influential musician/producer Harold Bradley, legendary singer Sonny James and multi-award-winning entertainer George Strait, will become the newest members of the coveted Country Music Hall of Fame. Formal induction for the artists will take place during "The 40th Annual CMA Awards," which will be broadcast live on the ABC Television Network, Monday, Nov. 6 (8:00-11:00 PM/ET) from the Gaylord Entertainment Center in Nashville, Tenn. Bradley will be inducted in the "Recording and/or Touring Musician Active Prior to 1980" category, which is awarded every third year in a rotation with the "Career Achieved National Prominence Prior to World War II" and "Non-Performer" categories. James will be inducted in the "Career Achieved National Prominence Between World War II and 1975" category....

MUSIC : Kick'n Up Kountry

Country stars such as SheDaisy and Sammy Kershaw and newcomers such as Keith Anderson and Josh Turner may headline the third annual Kick'n Up Kountry music festival, but event organizers are making room for the wannabe-future stars, too. The third annual festival Sept. 1-3 in Hallock, Minn., will open with the Colgate Country Showdown Minnesota/North Dakota State Final, featuring contestants for what's billed as America's largest country music talent search. The competition will be followed with a performance by Miss North Dakota 2005 Ashley Ford. The Cavalier, N.D., native who attends classes at UND won at the state and regional contests last year and was one of five national finalists who traveled to Nashville, Tenn., in January. Other entertainers at the festival range from a Shania Twain tribute act to hot regional acts such as The Roosters, based out of Fargo, and nationally known performers Cowboy Crush and Kevin Sharp....

It's hard to believe, but Brooks & Dunn recently hit the 15-year mark as a country duo. Over that period, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn have sold millions of albums, scored dozens of country hits -- including "The Long Goodbye," "Ain't Nothing 'Bout You" and their current singles, "Play Something Country" and "Building Bridges." They've played before countless fans and won dozens of honors, including Grammy, AMA, CMA and People's Choice awards.
