(Editor's note: This is the last of a multi-part series covering the 2006 Follow the Cattle Tour sponsored by the Montana Stockgrowers Association, Montana Beef Network and Montana Beef Council.)FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Livestock producers have to have a mindset to change if they are to compete in the international marketplace, according to Colorado State University Extension specialists.“Change is not always bad, but it can be painful," said John Scanga of Colorado State University during the 2006 Follow the Cattle Tour. ....

Phils to re-work the script

Like a movie that lasts 30 minutes too long, the Phillies played out the season on Sunday. It took an 11th-inning, game-winning single by Florida's Jason Wood with one out to score Alfredo Amezaga as the Marlins beat the Phillies 3-2 in front of 36,368 at Dolphin Stadium. The climax to this season came Saturday, though, as the Phillies were eliminated from the playoffs for the 12th straight season. Sunday they had the look of a team that just wanted to move on to a much-needed rewrite of a script that's been hanging around far too long. Granted, this season held plenty of positives, but in the end the Phillies placed a bad ending on a compelling drama. "I was thinking about it the other day," first-year general manager Pat Gillick said before the game. "We made some moves (at the trade deadline) that we thought would (pay off) further down the line and would prove out to be the direction we should go....

From AA-S Best Bet: It's a hip-hop show of huge proportions when rulers of the underground hip-hop movement join together for a night of socially-conscious rhymes with phat beats. The Hip Hop Producers Showcase features some of the hottest producers on the scene, including E Swift, a founding member of Tha Alkaholiks; Nottz, producer for G-Unit, Busta Rhymes, Scarface and Snoop Dogg; and Diamond D who has worked with the Fugees, Fat Joe and Sadatx. Austin's own Vehicular joins the group. Perhaps the highlight of the showcase is M1, one half of the hip-hop rap duo Dead Prez. M1 recently released his first solo album, "Confidential." M1 and stic.man formed Dead Prez in the '90s and have been rapping about social consciousness, black pride and righting injustice. Like their counterparts, A Tribe Called Quest, Erykah Badu, The Roots and others, Dead Prez has maintained a loyal underground following....

Hilton Turned Down Pussycat Dolls Hit

PARIS HILTON turned down a surefire hit when she told producers she wasn't interested in international chart-topper DON'T CHA, before THE PUSSYCAT DOLLS recorded it. The socialite-turned-singer insists she was only played a rough version of the track which was very different to the single released by the US girl band, but she still wishes she'd snapped it up. The 25-year-old, who is promoting her debut single STARS ARE BLIND, says, "I think I did hear the song, but not in the format that we all came to know and love. "If I'd heard that, of course I'd have jumped at the chance." 13/08/2006 23:41 ....

Not quite reality on Big Brother

The removal of two housemates from the current series of Big Brother has raised questions about conditions for contestants on the controversial show. Last week, producers removed Michael Ashley Cox and Michael John Bric from the Big Brother house for what may or may not have been sexual misconduct. It was an unusually hard line from a show which provides a pole dancing podium and deliberately creates a shortage of beds so that contestants must sleep with strangers. But the contestants do not just turn up to appear on television: they are chosen. According to Kylie Sivewright, who was shortlisted for the current series of Big Brother, the audition process itself was degrading. She described some of what she was asked to do during the audition....

Canada-U.S. Lumber Accord Still Faces Opposition From Companies

July 5 (Bloomberg) -- The Canada-U.S. softwood lumber agreement reached July 1 to suspend a two-decade trade dispute may not survive opposition from Canadian producers, who say some issues remain and it's too easy for the U.S. to quit the accord. ``The way the agreement now stands, those companies are not going to agree to it and this thing is going to die,'' Richard Kelertas, an analyst with Dundee Securities in Montreal, said yesterday in a telephone interview. Chances that the agreement will be enacted have slipped to 65 percent from 85 percent in April, he estimated. One reason the accord may not work is it is opposed by the British Columbia Lumber Trade Council and member companies which represent more than 5 percent of duties collected by the U.S. during the dispute....
