The only fake bits are my nails
Posted Monday, January 01, 2007 1:07:33 PM by Blog57 Team
SAM COOKE, our new Page 3 Idol, wants to get a couple of facts straight ? her 30F boobs are 100 per cent REAL. The beauty is indignant her best assets are frequently branded fakes. The 21-year-old says: ?People ask me all the time if I have had a boob job. It really annoys me. ?I think it?s because I have a small frame but round, pert boobs that they jump to the conclusion they are false.? And modest Sam adds: ?My boobs are the ONLY part of my body I am really happy with so it?s upsetting that people don?t believe they are real. ?Now I am on Page 3 people will realise the truth ? because The Sun bans silicon. The only fake thing about me is my fingernails!? The gorgeous girl-next-door is not only beautiful, she has brains and likes nothing more than walking her dogs near her home in Manchester....

WaMu Theater, Van Morrison are good fit

Van Morrison and his 10- member band of singers and instrumentalists enraptured concertgoers Saturday night with a sold-out show that spanned the Belfast-born singer's entire career. Among the favorites in the 19-long set at the new WaMu Theater were "Moondance," "Brown Eyed Girl" and "St. James Infirmary Blues." Concertgoers quickly rose and danced and sang along to Morrison's classic songs and well-chosen cover tunes. It was a terrific show, among the best he has offered in the Seattle area in recent memory. But why so short? Morrison's band took the stage promptly at 7:30 p.m., catching concertgoers off-guard and leaving them with little time to enjoy the abundant food and beverage service at the venue. The show concluded abruptly at about 9 p.m. without an encore....

They were the bogeymen of the English game. But is it now time to forgive the diver and the winker?

IN AN ideal world, all of sport?s winners would be like Darren Clarke. Lovable, charming, brave, good-humoured. It is no surprise that Clarke is odds-on to be the BBC Sports Personality of the Year, even if the good old British yen for mischief could bring a late rush of votes for Sam Allardyce. Zara Phillips was clearly a compromise candidate, while a worthy contender such as Nicole Cooke, the first British winner of the women?s Tour de France, was always fighting a losing battle, not least once Alastair Campbell had endorsed her campaign. ....

MUSIC SCENE: ‘Guitar Junior,’ a true blues legend
Posted Monday, August 14, 2006 5:10:26 AM by Blog57 Team
Which is just one reason music fans of all stripes should head for Quincy on Saturday to hear Luther Guitar Junior'' Johnson headline the first Blues on the Bay festival at WaterWorks at Marina Bay. Another good reason is simply that Luther still gets after it, performing some of the most electrifying blues, rock and soul anywhere, even at age 67. Johnson is the real deal, with a blues pedigree that can't be matched, and can scarcely be believed. Shortly after arriving in Chicago in the 1950s as a teenager, the kid from Itta Bena, Miss., was playing guitar and/or bass in the bands of Big Mama Thornton (of original Hound Dog'' fame) and Magic Sam. That would be enough to send blues fans over the moon right there, but by the 1970s Johnson's talents had gotten him noticed by another Chicago bandleader who needed a guitarist: Muddy Waters....

'Incompetent' railway man but ace guitarist
Posted Wednesday, August 09, 2006 3:06:32 AM by Blog57 Team
James Hunter may owe his career in music to railroads. In 1979, when Hunter was a teenager, he got a job as a lock fitter -- an employee in charge of a Victorian-era safety feature found in signal boxes -- for the railroad in his native Colchester, England. He was terrible at it. "I was the most recent hire and the most incompetent they ever had," he says in a phone interview from a tour stop in San Francisco, California. "I was a sight to behold." He did the job for seven years -- though his work just as often involved digging holes, probably to get him away from the signal boxes, he chuckles. Fortunately for Hunter, he had a talent for playing guitar, which he would indulge during his off-hours. "I was doing it mostly for fun," he says....

Will Taylor Hicks Overcome The American Idol Stigma?
Posted Wednesday, July 05, 2006 1:11:57 PM by Blog57 Team
It has been a little over a month since Taylor Hicks was crowned the 2006 American Idol. In that time he has worked hard to dispel any thought that American Idols are not real musicians or singers, or that they haven’t worked hard or paid any dues. It helps that Taylor is 29 years old and his years of playing every bar in the Southeast shows. It’s pretty clear he’s a man who has paid plenty of dues. It helps that he knows his music. He loves Ray Charles, Sam Cooke, and Van Morrison. And it certainly doesn’t hurt that he already has two independent albums, In Your Time (currently unavailable, but sells for a pretty penny on Ebay) and Under the Radar, under his belt.Taylor beat the American Idol stigma weeks before he even won the title. Taylor pushed the American Idol stigma aside the second the walked through the door to his audition....

Where Are They Now?: Gilbert Brown
Posted Friday, June 30, 2006 11:12:05 PM by Blog57 Team
Growing up in Detroit, Gilbert Brown and his younger brother Leroycouldn't wait until their dad, an autoworker and weekend drag racer, left the house so they could re-create his latest race. The two troublemakers would plop onto side-by-side sofas that served as dueling race cars and improvise steering wheels using their father's LPs. Now 35, Gilbert recalls what happened whenever his father caught the boys "messin' with James Brown or Sam Cooke." Time for a whuppin'. ...
