Jerry Lee Lewis, Last Man Standing

What can you do with Jerry Lee Lewis? It seems unlikely it's the first time this question has been raised. You imagine it was asked when he married his 13-year-old cousin in 1958, or when he shot his bass player in the chest, or when he arrived at Graceland with a loaded gun and announced he'd come to kill Elvis, or a year later when, informed of the King's death, he remarked: "I'm glad. Just another one outta the way. What the shit did Elvis do except take dope I couldn't git a-hold of?" ....

When it comes to climax, honesty is the best policy

In the modern, gobby, blogging world, every ostensibly obvious fact is up for debate. You and I ? observers who are serene, wise-eyed, and possibly unfairly attractive ? know full well that public transport, Kettle crisps and the collected works of the Bee Gees are undoubtedly good things. Dairy Lea Lunchables, the total collapse of Western Civilisation and Kate Thornton, on the other hand, are clearly quite bad. But however obvious these things are to us, there are many who could waste your time arguing the opposite. Indeed, I would wager that they probably have, and will continue to do so, until ? by now slightly peevish at how truculent and wrong-headed the rest of humanity is ? you die. ....

A Matthew McConaughey-Sarah Jessica Parker romantic comedy and writer, director, star Tyler Perry's latest comedy hits DVD and video this week. • "Failure to Launch" -- Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker delivered a solid hit with this predictable romantic comedy about a grown-up guy still living with his parents. McConaughey stars as a laid-back boat salesman who's 35 but won't leave the nest, his parents (Kathy Bates and Terry Bradshaw) hiring an "interventionist" (Parker) to play siren and lure their boy into moving out on his own. The DVD has five featurettes, including one rather self-importantly titled "The Failure to Launch Phenomenon," featuring interviews with real-life adults still living with the folks. DVD, $29.99....
