| Allen stumbles his way into tight race | | Posted Tuesday, October 24, 2006 7:03:44 AM by Blog57 Team | | The rich bass of Johnny Cash singing "I Walk the Line" filled the hotel ballroom as an audience of Republican faithful waited for George Allen. But Virginia's junior senator has not walked the line in what should have been a relatively easy reelection campaign. Instead - at times sounding more like comedian Gracie Allen - the former governor and erstwhile presidential candidate has prompted questions of character with racially insensitive comments and reports of his affection for symbols of the old South, such as the Confederate flag. Last week, a Washington Post poll showed Allen virtually tied with Democratic challenger and political novice James Webb, a former Navy secretary and Vietnam vet who has been outspent by 5-1. In early August, Allen held a 16-point edge on Webb in most Virginia polls.... | |

| | | Johnny Cash: American V - A Hundred Highways | | Posted Monday, September 11, 2006 9:07:21 PM by Blog57 Team | | This is the final in the American series, and began production immediately after the release of American IV. This is the great man's epilogue, the final words to a world that took so much from him. During the making of this record Johnny Cash was seriously ill and would later die the very day that Rick Rubin (producer) was putting the finishing touches to American V. Hurt was a massive hit for Cash after his death and the emotional video won an MTV award, this album in basic terms is 12 tracks with all the heart wrenching content of Hurt. God's Gonna Cut You Down has been used to market this album and is without a doubt one of the strongest songs, notably when Cash lets go of the song sheet and yells the line, "When he said John go do my will!" This album is god-fearing and epic in every respect, with Cash utilising his voice to full effect.... | |

| | | No Cash crisis over Johnny's hit song at Ninian | | Posted Tuesday, August 01, 2006 9:02:41 AM by Blog57 Team | | Cardiff City fans have been reassured they're not facing a cash crisis - a Johnny Cash crisis. The Bluebirds adopted the late US music legend's classic track Ring Of Fire as their anthem in North America during their pre-season tour. That sparked rumours it could become the tune City run out to at Ninian Park when the new season kicks off, or that it might even be played after a goal. And many supporters weren't happy. Messageboards filled with complaints about the thought of Cash's distinctive country music being used to mark the ball hitting the net. But City's Tannoy announcer Ali Yassine can lay that speculation to rest. As far as matchday music at Ninian goes, it's business as usual next season. .... | |

| | | 'Leonard Cohen' | | Posted Thursday, July 27, 2006 11:02:28 AM by Blog57 Team | | Leonard Cohen, by his own description, can barely carry a tune. He sounds something like a Jewish Johnny Cash. His idiosyncratic music and dark lyrics defy conventional adjectives. But the sound, the words, the life and this documentary devoted to them are as deep and deeply riveting as the basso profundo voice. .... | |
