| ONLINE UPDATE: New owner plans to add music to Meson de Mesilla | | Posted Saturday, October 21, 2006 11:04:50 PM by Blog57 Team | | MESILLA — Cali McCord said her right brain and left brain work together well. The former country music singer is very creative, but also enjoys working with numbers and running a business. She hopes the two sides of her personality merge well when she takes over the restaurant and overnight lodging business Meson de Mesilla. "I'm really excited," she said. "I want to make people happy. If they come in and feel they have value for their money, then it's great." McCord, 50, plans to take over ownership the first of November. At that time she will close the doors and remodel the restaurant, bar and hotel. "As soon as we close down we're going to sell every stick of furniture," she said. "All the kitchen equipment is going. I'm redoing everything." When the place reopens in February, she plans to sing six nights a week with a jazz band at the restaurant, which will be named Torch.... | |

| | | Holiday packed with events | | Posted Saturday, September 02, 2006 11:04:44 PM by Blog57 Team | | The biggest challenge this event-packed Labor Day weekend will be deciding where to go and how long to stay. There's the Taste of Colorado festival downtown, where all kinds of culinary delights can be sampled. If beer is more in line with your taste, there's Oktoberfest at the Beaver Creek resort to check out. Just don't drink and drive; the State Patrol will be out in force. Music lovers can head for Copper Mountain for two days of Copper Country concerts or jam with various groups at the Janus Jazz festival in Aspen. People who enjoy arts and crafts should head out to Boulder, where the Hometown Fair will be held along the Boulder Creek path. But if you want more grit and action, check out Thunder in the Rockies in Loveland, where motorcycles, stunt shows and martial-arts demonstrations are mixed with live music and comedy.... | |

| | | Create your own Italian holiday with old movies | | Posted Tuesday, July 25, 2006 7:05:42 AM by Blog57 Team | | While stranded at the airport in Venice, where my family and I ended our 11-day "leisure tour" of Italy, I gave some thought to how different cultures view leisure time. We take vacations. Europeans go on holiday. The word holiday, based on the English words holy and day, has evolved into meaning a special day. Going on holiday is a lovely expression. Unlike vacation (meaning to vacate, to make void), the word holiday captures the festive and divine spirit of leisure time with the family. WORLD CUP MANIA Italy is an enchanting place for a holiday, particularly when you arrive in Rome, like we did, on the day that Italian soccer team vied against the French team for the World Cup. Mobs of people, many carrying Italian flags or painted in the flag's green, white and red colors, crowded the piazzas to watch the championship game on large outdoor screens.... | |
